Ski Lessons to start the new Year?

Start 2010 healthy! Ski Lessons are available at the ski Club. Details can be found on this webside under SKIING - SKI LESSONS

If you are new to skiing or haven’t done it for ages, we recommend that you start with classic lessons then move to skating when you are comfortable with your balance and glide.

LOST on our TRAILS - see tips below

There are 2 main ski techniques – classic and skating.  Classic skiing is in the tracks and skate skiing uses similar motions to ice skating and it is most fun when there is lots of glide (temps warmer than -20).  A set of beginner lessons covers equipment needs, waxing, various techniques, including how to get up and down hills safely.  Over the series of lessons you will ski on different trails so by the end you will be familiar with several trails.  Most important we like to make it fun!

How to find your way around the Yellowknife ski trails:

There is a printable map of the trails on the ski club web site - under TRAILS .  All trails start by going to the right when your back is to the ski club building.  The trails are well signed.  The numbers on the signs indicate the trail distance in km.  The snowflake trail (signs are a white snowflake on a dark green background) is about 3 km long and it has the fewest hills.  The blue 2.5 km trail is also good for beginners.  The green 2.5 trail goes down into the ravine and up the other side.  Don’t try this trail until you are comfortable on the  smaller hills.

You will enjoy the fresh air, snow and exercise regardless of your skiing level.  Happy trails,
