Yellowknife Ski Races

The Yellowknife Ski Races are an annual event to meet skiers from other clubs, gain race experience, and have a good time. This is a family event, with categories for all ages. Anyone is eligible to enter (you don’t even have to be club member), or just drop by to watch and make some noise. Races held February 25 and 26, and come out for Coffeelicious’s specialty coffee in the chalet on Saturday 12:30-3:30 for a ski club subsidized $3. Continue reading

Men’s Night

Interested in a weekly night of skiing and socializing? A men’s skiing group will be running this year on Thursdays, both at the Yellowknife Ski Club and on trails throughout town and on the lake. If you are interested in joining or finding out more information, contact Alex Lothian at alothian02@yahoo.ca and he’ll add you to the weekly email list. Everyone is welcome to come out of this fun weekly social ski.

Bring A Dish

Potlucks will be the second Sunday of every month throughout the ski season. The first one will be held December 11 – come enjoy a festive gathering!  Bring food to share in the chalet at 5:30. Carols will be sung starting around 6:30. Feel free to ski before or after! Potluck Sundays are open to all members and their guests.

Be Safe

The GNWT Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) has informed the Yellowknife Ski Club of a recent rise in sightings of wolves and coyotes at the club. They are patrolling the area, but ask that people remain vigilant.

If you are out on the trails, we advise you remain alert to your surroundings and do not travel alone. If you have any questions, or if you see a wolf or coyote, please call the wildlife emergency phone at 873-7181.

The Season Has Started!

It’s been a mild start to the ski season this year, but ski trails are open and programs are starting to run! If you have registered for a program, you will receive information in your email from the volunteer program co-ordinator. Our hardworking trails crew have been out packing the snow and building up the snow cover, which is important to prepare the trails for grooming all winter, but trails are currently not groomed. We recommend not using your good skis until the trails have more snow cover on them and skiing with care due to variable conditions.

Wax and Wine this Thursday

Come out and Wax and Wine!
Join us to celebrate the start of ski season on Thursday, November 17th from 7-10 p.m. for some waxing and wine-ing at the Yellowknife Ski Club Chalet.

Our High Performance team will be available to expertly wax your skis (for the modest fee of $25 or $20 if you have multiple pairs) while you kick back and enjoy fine food and drinks with other ski enthusiasts. We’ll set the mood at the club with lighting and decor and you can relax and enjoy the evening.

A few special presentations will be made and all members and their guests are welcome. This is intended as an adult event, but babes in arms are welcome.

Snow Show Thank You!

The Yellowknife Ski Club held its kick off event for the season over the weekend and it was a great success. Just over 300 members signed up for early bird registration and we had a great turnout for the Snow Show and ski swap. This annual event not only starts off the ski season for 2016/17, but it’s also a fundraiser for many of our programs.

The board of the Yellowknife Ski Club thanks Events Coordinator Kerry Wheler for her hard work making “The magic” happen. Thank you to the following people who contributed to the Snow Show this year:
